Reimagining with Community Toolkit

The way in which decisions regarding schools had been made for decades had created a widening trust gap between underserved communities and Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The City of Chicago and CPS leaders, however, were determined to change this and engage communities in more authentic ways.

Our Approach

The way in which decisions regarding schools had been made for decades had created a widening trust gap between underserved communities and Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The City of Chicago and CPS leaders, however, were determined to change this and engage communities in more authentic ways.

Our Impact

Reimagining with Community has become the standard toolkit for engagement with school staff and communities at Chicago Public Schools. For example, the Toolkit was used to successfully facilitate engagement activities with community leaders from the North Lawndale area - a neighborhood with a history of disinvestment and mistrust towards CPS - to select three schools to undergo a transformation into Magnet Partnership Academies.
